What are you paying for?
It is important for a conference titled "African Futures" to welcome as many young researchers and colleagues from the African continent to Cologne as possible. We use the full price fees to subsidise the low-income registration fee, and also through funding travel and accommodation of many of those on low/no income.
However, due to the pandemic and the Ukraine War flights have become more expensive as have most services, energy supply and food costs. Additionally, many parts of Europe are suffering from an immense lack of personnel across various sectors. These dynamics make finding sponsors for a scientific conference very difficult. We have tried hard and have at least found some donors willing to provide some funds for delegate assistance. We have done our utmost to reduce costs without making the event less convenient or insightful for you, while sticking to (new) ecological and sustainability standards. Therefore, we will only provide the conference program in a digital format - not as a printed book of abstracts.
The University of Cologne has a certificate as a Fair Trade University and you will be served fairly traded drinks during the coffee breaks. Additionally, we want to reassure you that the water in all restrooms at the conference venue is drinkable! We will be serving a minimal amount of meat in order to ensure that the meat you will get complies with sustainability guidelines.
Funding
The Call for Funding is now closed.. ECAS aims to give grants to some precarious scholars and students to partially cover registration fees, as well as other costs such as accommodation, travel, covid tests and visas for F2F participation.
Codes of conduct
